I have been excited to see "Hole!" since I heard of it when it was originally revealed to be a part of fringe. I have, however, been let down by the shows I've been most excited to see, so my nerves were certainly brewing when I came to the theatre.

I had nothing to fear when in the hands of the almighty American SingSong!

Consisting of Nadja Leonhard-Hooper and Jake Brasch, we are told the tale of the end of the world, predicted by a schizophrenic preacher who received a vision that the rapture would take anyone who wasn't wearing a buttplug at the time up in into the air by an all-powerful wind to burn on the surface of the sun.

After buying thousands of wooden butt plugs, losing his wife and most of his congregation, and fleeing the government to live on private land in Nebraska, it turns out... he was right!!!

The musical follows Luke and Connor, two 18 year old best friends, as they are sent on a mission to kill butt plug-wearing sinners in Cincinnati.

It's a hilarious coming of age story filled with zany characters, kickass songs, and magnificent foley art (I now know that a vibrator pressed against a plastic cup makes the perfect sound for a car engine!)

This is not a show to miss, and, as I was lining up to see this production on Underbelly Cowgate, there was someone walking up and down the line asking if anyone had a spare ticket or was willing to sell their own. I was so glad I bought mine well before the fringe season started!

"Hole!" is this generation's Rocky Horror Show. I hope it returns next year for fringe, but I wouldn't be opposed to a U.K tour either. Wouldn't say no to an album either 😉

For its incredible creativity and the creators' butt ton of talent (pun very much intended), I am awarding a Fantastic Fringe Award!
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

What was a show that lived up to your expectations this year? Let us know in the comments so that we can catch it next year, and, as always, I hope you had a fantastic fringe!

Love,
